That sleepover that's all Jane's fault

[Sleepovers were not Elektra's thing. She could take part in some fancy, overrated ball anyone who was anyone would attend in her family's hotel easily. Funnily enough normal things like this escaped her. It happened when one grew up with an overprotective father who valued education over social calls with other girls her age.

Elektra could fake her way through it and so she did. She got her cook to make a wide array of food for her guests (notably some cupcakes for a certain thunder god), bought a wide variety DVDs, and made sure the staff knew to make themselves scarce until she called for one of them. Now to just wait for the guests and hope for the best.]

[She's giving this some serious thought.] Possibly. He did climb over a wall uninvited to go see Snow White. Lucky for him, Snow White just hid behind a curtain.

If you could sing it would help your cause. That is assuming you want the role to begin with.

She didn't try to stab him? That is very fortunate for him.

I don't know about singing, that could be asking a bit much.

I was disappointed when I saw it. Those princesses are such pushovers. [Is she serious? She certainly sounds like she is.]

Do you think so? I guess it is easier to just say pretty words.

[trickstering]

Are all of your fairy tales thus? [i mean they probably have fairy tales but not necessarily the same ones.]

I like to think so.

It depends. The popular adaptions are the original stories and the ones Disney made.

The originals are darker. The things that happen to the girls within them can be disturbing, tragic, or ironic which can also qualify under the first two. They rarely ever get happy endings.

Disney made them kinder. They avoid these fates by being rescued by princes for the most part. Every once in a while one of them is competent enough to save themselves or at least help with their own rescue. Afterward they get married and live happily ever after.

[She smiles sarcastically.] Can you guess which version people prefer?

[trickstering]

I suppose the reassurance that everything works out in the end is a fixation of every realm. Such things are nice as a child, but I've no delusions that life functions in this fashion.

[likethetragedy]

Neither do I. That's why I always liked the originals better. I doubt you're surprised by that.

[It seems she was trying for a joke there, but got preoccupied with other thoughts. Elektra is quick to correct herself.]

I'm sure you will be happy to know Snow White was one of the lucky ones. The attempts on her life were only more creative in the original. It was the woman trying to kill her who got the terrifying ending.

Not the worst ending, certainly. After all, it is always better when in the end the wicked get what they deserve, is it not?

[Elektra shrugs.] Depends on the wicked's motivations. The Evil Queen was jealous of Snow White for being fairer. That's hardly justification for trying to poison and suffocate her.

[trickstering]

One would think there would be less violent ways of dealing with one's jealousy.

[Oh Loki, I believe this is the pot calling the kettle black.]

You would think. I guess the point is she doesn't stop to really think about the situation. She gives in to her jealousy and ends up dying in horrific ways.

It's cautionary tale about letting yourself give in to your darker impulses. It doesn't matter who is fairer when you're dead.

[The irony of this accidentally coming up is lost on no one. Also a beat.]

[what are you talking about he would never give into his darker impulses. come on.]

Favorite story? We were told many as children, and more still I read in books. It is hard to say, in specific, if there one I liked more than the rest.

Although such fairy tales of charming princes and damsels in distress are interesting, I suppose we were always more attentive to the stories our father told about the glory of Asgard. Young boys appreciate stories of battle more than stories of love, after all.

[Yeah what was I thinking? He'd never try to kill like everyone ever in his make dad love me plot.]

That's expected. It probably doesn't hurt you both could fit under that ideal making the hunt for princesses and love fairly easy.

[She will never stop teasing him about that ever.] Do you want pick one to tell me about?

[trickstering]

You are so insistent on it, I might start believing it myself.

I don't know how interesting our stories would be for you, but I suppose I could tell one. A story of battle, then?

That's what I want.

[trickstering]

Once, many years ago, around the time Thor and I were born, the Frost Giants posed a major threat to your realm. They had always been an enemy of Asgard, and thus Odin came to Midgard with an army to push back the Frost Giants, and to stop their destruction. The battle was long and difficult, and Midgard had already suffered much, prior to when Odin had arrived, but not all was lost. Finally, the Asgardian army was able to push them back to their realm, Jotunheim [he pauses for a brief moment, wondering how much Thor has told his new friends about the nature of the circumstances leading up to his banishment, but then continues,] although over the course of the fighting, Odin lost his eye, the Frost Giants lost the source of their power, the casket of ancient winters. After that they were confined to Jotunheim, unable to leave and attack, as Asgard stood as beacon of hope for all.

At least, that's how the story ends, and it is a rather nice sounding ending, isn't it? The consolidation of power against one's greatest enemy. Yet, even so, there were always whispers that things that go bump in the night might just be a frost giant coming for vengeance. And thus, as children we all told each other stories of them - some scary, others of the eventuality where we believed we would gain our own glory.

[Elektra is fully absorbed in the story. Once it might have been curious to her a thousand years later no one remembers people from another world came to save them from another race or even that they truly existed at all. She knows now there are many things hidden or forgotten waiting to be discovered in this world. She is grateful to receive another piece of it. Learning out the hard way again held no appeal to her.]

I can see why you would. They must be something if they are worthy of being your enemies. What are they like exactly? The Frost Giants.

They are giant creatures, ever regarded as monsters. They are blue, and use ice as their weapon. It seems rather self-explanatory from the name. Their realm is cold and desolate, though I understand it does have whatever... glory that it once did. In truth, there is not much Asgardians have, or wish, to say about them. I suppose there is something to be said for knowing one's enemy, but beyond their power it isn't as if we've been asking to hear their campfire stories or anything. Whatever it is that they do, other than try and freeze things, I'm not really the best authority.

Hm. [She takes a moment to digest that before saying anything.] Sorry that must have seemed like a pointless question. It never hurts to know a little about the people who caused so much trouble here in the past especially since we conveniently forgot about them.

You would think mankind would remember something like ice monsters and champions from another world but, no such luck.

[trickstering]

Perhaps it is better that way. I cannot imagine it would be an easy time to have to remember.

Probably not. Having your fate decided by two warring factions must be terrifying.

[trickstering]

At least it all worked out in the end.

[likethetragedy]

That's true. I imagine we wouldn't be having this conversation otherwise. [A beat.]

[trickstering]

Oh, now we're getting personal. [still teasing.] You're going to have to let me ask you questions in return, with the way this is going.

I can't remember, some good looking maiden, I suppose. It was many years ago, now.

I don't know about that. I like the way things are going. [She sighs like this is the hardest thing ever to remember.]

But who knows? Probably some charismatic, pretty eyed boy who never stood a chance.

[Against her father anyways. As if she's the easiest person to deal with either.]
